Happy Heroe’s Day (Namibia)!
Celebrated annually on August 26th, Heroe’s Day commemorates the Namibian War of Independence, which began on 26 August 1966 at Omugulugwombashe. It was on this day that the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) decided to take up the struggle for the independence of the former German colony and League of Nations Mandate Territory.
I was just in Namibia in April/May of this year, and was impressed with the people and the country’s diverse landscape. It was a unique time to be there, as they had received record amounts of rain, and things were blooming that had not bloomed for years and years.
This picture is of a dung beetle hill in Otjiwarango. They could be well over 12 feet high!
Stay tuned for more pictorials and stories about this beautiful country.
Adventure on,
